    S1E2: Full Lotus

After a week and a half on the road, we check in to discuss our experiences in Bangkok, a warm welcome in Sri Lanka, and what happens when you push yourself too hard during an Ashtanga yoga practice. . . .

Randall and I strategically booked our flight plan with an extended layover in Bangkok, where we touched down for 5 days. It was my second trip to the Thai capital, and this time I felt like I was able to connect with the city in a meaningful way.

My prior Bangkok experience was short, sweaty, and… sweaty. I was all too eager to escape the metropolitan hotbox and head to the northern hills, with fresh air and temple quests my prerogative. But take it from meit’s a city worthy of your time. Chinatown, street food, Thai massage, motorcycle taxis, and more street food! It’s not often that you get the chance to rediscover a city abroad, and I feel fortunate to now call Bangkok a friend.

And then it was off to Sri Lanka, with nothing but a 42L backpack, an open mind, and an open heart. I believe that the universe is perpetually guiding us along each of our journeys, regardless of who we are, where we are, or how we are living.

Not only is it guiding us, but it is constantly offering us affirmations of our decisions when we are living righteously. It was obvious that Randall and I were in line with destiny as soon as we left the arrival gate.

We met our friend Lucas in the bus park just outside the airport, and within a few sentences discovered that we had more in common than we could have imagined. We shared the bus, a meal, and a train ride down to the south coast, where our real adventure was about to begin.

The self-affirming energy of this encounter would soon carry us a community of friends and travelers that would change our lives forever. Want to know how our story unfolds? Check out episode 2 of the Switch the Flip, “Full Lotus.”
